When Princess Eugenie ascended the steps of St George's Chapel at Windsor Castle, on her wedding day, she finally answered the question that had plagued both journalists and her fans for months: who would be the designer chosen to design her dress? In an interview earlier this year, the Princess revealed that her dress would be made by A British-based designer, sending the rumour mill into overdrive with numerous names thrown into the mix. However, on Friday the rumours were put to rest when it was revealed that the London-based design duo Christopher de Vos and Peter Pilotto had secured one of the biggest bridal commissions of the year and created the full skirted and off-the-shoulder gown.

Post-wedding on Friday night, unlike both The Duchess of Cambridge and most recently The Duchess of Sussex, Princess Eugenie was pictured still wearing her original wedding gown as she left Windsor Castle to attend a private reception hosted by her parents Prince Andrew and the Duchess of York Sarah Ferguson. However, in one of the four official wedding portraits taken by the photographer Alex Bramwall, the princess is captured wearing a different dress, that it turns out she chose to change into at the Royal Lodge.

Created by the American designer Zac Posen, in a statement posted on the official Royal website,  Posen is said to have  been “inspired by the beauty of Windsor and the surrounding countryside.” Similar, to Eugenie’s Peter Pilotto wedding gown that featured motifs important to couple including a thistle for Scotland, symbolising their fondness for Balmoral, a shamrock for Ireland in a nod to the Ferguson family and the York Rose in honour of the bride's father - Eugenie’s second dress by Posen also included a number of symbols meaningful to the couple.  The gown’s pinkish hue “reflects the blush of an English rose, ” whilst Posen is said to have taken his inspiration from the White Rose of York that is subtly embroidered on both the shoulder and back of the dress that hold together a unique cape detail.

Posen was born in New York and attended London’s Central Saint Martins University where he studied womenswear design. He launched his eponymous collection in 2001 and has since gone onto win a string of awards, appear as judge on Project Runway and has dressed a myriad of high profile women including Michelle Obama, Naomi Watts, Oprah Winfrey and Amanda Seyfried.

Eugenie accessorised the dress with a pair of diamond and emerald drop earrings, that were a gift from her husband Jack Brooksbank whilst she also wore a hair slide belonging to Her Majesty The Queen. Queen Victoria’s Wheat-Ear Brooches were originally commissioned by William IV in 1830 for Queen Adelaide. They were passed down to Queen Victoria in 1837, and eventually to The Queen in 1952. She has worn them as both hair slides and brooches on numerous occasions.

The blush coloured gown is different to the white dresses that both Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle chose for their evening receptions. In May, Meghan wore a white Stella McCartney column dress to her reception whilst Kate wore an Alexander McQueen A-line sweetheart neck dress in 2011.
